Somatic Experiments
Somatic Experiments #1: Scrunch & #2: Strung Up (2009-2014) are performance installations created in collaboration with sound artist Jim Brashear. Each investigates tuning the body “inside out” by bringing internal sounds and somatic processes into the environment to take form. Groans, mumbles, sighs and other intimate, nonlinguistic resonances are processed and layered live using Kyma, while the dancer folds and contorts the physical body in relation to material objects onstage.
